Hygge, Alsatian style. Landscape architect Emil Leroy-Jönsson wanted his Alsatian hotel, 48°Nord Landscape Hotel, to embody a philosophy rather than Nordic architecture. Admittedly, to build it, the Franco-Danish architect enlisted the help of renowned Norwegian architect Reiulf Ramstad, but the latter, while drawing inspiration from Scandinavian hytter, made it a rule to respect the landscape and local traditions and minimize the ecological footprint. Like objects with unexpected and appealing shapes, these comfortable wooden cabins are scattered across the site, inhabiting the landscape without distorting it. There are several types, varying in size, with two or three levels, some with saunas, Nordic baths, or spas, all with large bay windows and soft colors that complement the warmth of the wood. Guests gather for moments of conviviality or relaxation in the building housing the reception, restaurant, and spa. In a more subdued atmosphere, they enjoy the dishes of chef Frédéric Metzger, who puts his experience to work in a cuisine consistent with the spirit of the place: ancient preservation techniques, organic vegetable garden, wild harvesting, and of course local products.
