In Vipiteno, Veronika and Daniel are reinventing hospitality in a 14th-century house. After Vin Zenz, a socially conscious wine bar, they opened Haus am Turm and Ida Apartments, combining Gothic architecture with minimalist design. Between history and slow food, it's a unique destination.
They met over wine. He is an oenologist and sommelier, she is responsible for the distribution of German wines in Italy. In the town of Vipiteno/Sterzing (the northernmost town in Italy), Veronika's grandfather ran a bar in the 1960s in this 14th-century house. When the tenants vacated the space, Veronika and Daniel set up a wine bar there in 2010, Vin Zenz, a Slow Food member offering wines and cuisine that reflect their ecological convictions. They then took over the rest of the house to open a beautiful hotel, Haus am Turm, in 2021, with the help of the architectural firm Senoner Tammerle. At almost the same time, a few steps away, they opened Ida Apartments in an equally old house. The architects at Assaggio opted for a sober style that highlights the Gothic and Baroque elements of this listed building. A contemporary spirit that blends beautifully with the vaults, moldings, and carved door frames, a modern use of local craftsmanship, and an attention to detail that makes for an ultra-comfortable stay.
