Chez Georges

Chez
Georges Laurent & Diane Van der Putt

In the heart of Lille, yet tucked away in a quiet spot, a guesthouse and a restaurant—or vice versa: a contemporary auberge, as its co-founders Georges Laurent and Diane Van der Putt like to describe it.

Georges is no stranger to the hospitality scene. Back in 2021, he opened his restaurant Épicé in the same location, focusing on spices and world cuisines. Before that, he honed his skills at Les Toquées, founded by his mother Marie (also a restaurant and guesthouse), where he developed his taste for hospitality. His meeting with sommelier Diane inspired him to rethink his concept. In 2024, Épicé became Chez Georges, with a more gastronomic focus and, notably, the creation of four guest rooms on the upper floor of this typical Old Lille house. Each room has its own color—brick, blue, green, yellow—yet they share a common spirit: simple design with character, featuring elegant lighting and small pieces sourced from Momentum, a charming Lille décor boutique. Guests quickly feel at ease in these cozy spaces, warmly welcomed at breakfast by Mathieu, who takes care to offer local products in line with the restaurant’s philosophy. The restaurant alone is worth the visit, mainly frequented by locals who clearly know it well. From his small open kitchen, Georges sends out beautiful plates, each element meticulously sourced. That evening, there was a fresh cheese / aged mimolette / wild garlic ravioli, and a Cambrésis lamb saddle in a herb crust bursting with flavor. All with the great satisfaction of having only one (admittedly steep) staircase to climb to return to your room.
