Maison Roz

The aptly named Rue des Voiliers (Sailboat Street), which runs behind Maison Roz, leads to a small port, Ros Bras, where boats moor that sail along the Aven River, connecting Pont-Aven to the Atlantic. You can do the same and discover the meandering river lined with greenery aboard a small boat. Or you can stay put: the view from the building overlooking the river is breathtaking. Here, nature inspired the painters—including Paul Gauguin—of the Pont-Aven School, which became famous at the end of the 19th century. You can simply admire the selected paintings that adorn the walls or use the Pont-Aven museum as an excuse to cycle across the fields. Even with 12 people—including two children—you can enjoy peace and quiet, read away from the others in the bedroom of a separate cabin, laze around in the covered pool, or alternate between the sauna and a nap on the large sun-drenched terrace. In winter, you can warm up in front of the stove in the living room after a walk, your cheeks reddened by the wind, and enjoy salted butter crepes prepared in the well-equipped kitchen... A family home in the 19th century, Maison Roz has been revitalized by the architect duo who own Wunder, Élodie Dumas and Augustin Decaux. While the place has gained contemporary comfort, it has lost none of its authenticity and the spirit of seaside villas where good times turn into little madeleines.
