Akereta
Chez
Julie Artru
At Akereta, you arrive as if you were coming home to a family house. A house that has lived, traveled, and taken the time to transform itself before opening its doors. Nestled in the Basque Country, just a few minutes from Guéthary, this fully renovated traditional Basque house embodies gentle, warm, and deeply sincere hospitality.
Behind Akereta is Julie. After spending several years abroad—in Singapore, Sydney, and Brussels—she settled with her family in Guéthary in the Basque Country, then discovered this Labourd farmhouse tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, overlooking the charming village of Ahetze. She completely renovated it to create a cozy, comfortable home open to travelers. Today, Akereta reflects her personality: welcoming, caring, modest. Cotton and linen fabrics, surfing photos, echoing whites, bedding worthy of a luxury hotel, a fireplace in winter, a terrace with a view in summer, a large open kitchen for cooking together, travel souvenirs scattered here and there... Here, everything is in its rightful place and the decor sets the tone: you slow down, effortlessly. The former stylist's other passion? Sourdough bread. So she trained at the International School of Baking founded by Thomas Teffri-Chambelland, before making bread and sourdough the guiding principle of the house. Today, Julie offers workshops on sourdough: bread making, sourdough maintenance, and teaching simple and precise techniques. And because bread is also, and above all, a matter of patience, we learn to take our time.
