Kabañ

Chez
Virginie Brégeon

In the heart of the charming village of Saint-Suliac, on the banks of the Rance, Kabañ is a former fisherman’s house now living a new life that is as inspired as it is inspiring.

In the village of Saint-Suliac, one of the most beautiful in France, on the banks of the Rance, this address carries all the charm and historical depth of old houses—those that once sheltered fishermen who, two centuries ago, ventured as far as Newfoundland in pursuit of cod. While preserving its essence and heritage, Virginie has transformed the place into a singular, hybrid cocoon, with the ambition of offering, in the heart of Saint-Suliac, an in situ experience that is as authentic as it is inspired. It’s no coincidence that many of her guests come here seeking solitude, almost as if on a personal retreat, in what Virginie fondly calls “the smallest third place in the world.” A peaceful, mysterious spirit of place undeniably permeates the house, where antique furniture, curious objects, and shades of blue—created by her and echoed throughout the walls of each room—run from the ground floor up to the attic bedroom on the second floor, via the studio and library on the first. Coming from a family of hoteliers and restaurateurs in Rennes, Virginie—also an author, illustrator, food stylist, and artistic director—knows how to create connections and meaning between people and places. When the house is not rented out, it becomes a studio-gallery where visitors can discover her creations as well as those of her friends. When the house is not rented out, it becomes a studio-gallery where visitors can discover her creations, and because it was only natural to her that the house should be a place of life, sharing, and joy, Breton cooking classes are also regularly held here.
