In the rooms, the walls shift between sky and navy blues, beiges, orangey and brick tones. The shower rooms continue the play with colourful tiles running from floor to ceiling. It feels fresh, graphic, warm and different from one room to the next. The renovation also made it possible to squeeze four small cabin rooms into the house. Designed to accommodate one adult or two children, they are particularly well suited to solo travellers and families, who can have their children stay nearby without having to book a second large room. An efficient solution, very much in the spirit of Le Voltaire, which above all manages to keep prices reasonable right in the centre of Arles. From Place Voltaire, the Roman amphitheatre is just a few minutes away, as is the train station, and from there Arles is best explored entirely on foot. Galleries, terraces, shops and good restaurants: Le Voltaire is the kind of base where you drop your bag before disappearing into the city streets for the day. Unless, that is, you stay for dinner. Because at Le Voltaire, they also like to eat. The menu revolves around sharing plates, tapas and pizzettas, with particular attention paid to the produce and the people who make it. Levain for the bread and dough, Terres de Prêcheurs in Tarascon for the vegetables, Cave Bien Vivant for the wines, Brasserie Artisanale Arlésienne for the beers and Plage Plage for the ice cream: Guillaume and Claudia have looked close to home to fill their plates and glasses.
