Chez La Belge

We come here first thing in the morning for a coffee and something to nibble on; then back at lunchtime for the crispy focaccias – the mortadella one is worth the detour alone –, fresh, flavour-packed salads or a particularly delicious pissaladière. To drink, there are local sodas and beers, available to enjoy here or take away. Everything is set within the former butcher’s shop, which Claudia has given a new lease of life without trying too hard. Marble tables, red-and-white checked napkins, vintage crockery happily piled up: the whole place is simple, lively and just a little bit chaotic, exactly as we like it. Chez la Belge is also a little grocery shop, where Claudia brings together carefully sourced products chosen with taste, such as the olive oils from Domaine Jolibois. Enough to leave with a few treasures under your arm after lunch. But what stays with you most about Chez la Belge is Claudia, her energy and her big smile. The kind of place you drop into for a quick coffee, only to very quickly find yourself wanting to come back for lunch. And then make it your regular spot.
