Forget the soulless, charmless hotel tucked away behind Place d'Italie. Joris Bruneel, co-founder in 2013 of the MyHotels group and Babel Belleville, and Marion Mailaender, architect and designer, have reinvented the urban hotel here, conscious and conscientious, perfectly integrated into its social environment and as eco-responsible as possible. While Marion Mailaender chose to preserve certain existing elements, she revamped them, combining them with furniture by Bouroullec or Gae Aulenti, called on students from the nearby Estienne school, who designed works of art for the 60 rooms, and Merci Raymond to create a stunning two-level garden, intended to be a public garden, as well as a fully planted terrace. Another idea we liked was making a so-called suspended room available to the town hall, police, fire department, and local associations to temporarily accommodate people in emergency situations.
