La Relève

Chez
Greg Hessmann & Greg Mandonato

In Marseille, Le Bar de la Relève has been given a new lease of life: this iconic bistro, taken over by Greg Hessmann and Greg Mandonato, combines authenticity, conviviality, and 1950s style. Above it are four arty, colorful, and sunny rooms designed by Honoré. A true Marseille hideaway.

It could have been just another neighborhood bistro with a slightly outdated charm that took the right turn at the right time. But that would have been without counting on the determination, talent, and enthusiasm of Greg Hessmann and Greg Mandonato. Ten years ago, they rolled up their sleeves, took up the challenge, took over from the Agosta family, and reinvented Le Bar de la Relève without changing its essence. One Greg on stage, one Greg at the piano; they could have left it at that. Then, with the help of the mother-daughter duo behind the Marseille brand Honoré, they came up with the idea of creating four rooms above the bar for friends, friends of friends, and anyone else who fancied staying there. The atmosphere is sunny, subtly fifties, colorful, arty, full of humor, chic without being pretentious, unpretentious—in short, charming and quite seductive.
