Café Quentine
Chez
Magalie & Patrice
Maï de Colnet
In Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, stepping through the doors of Café Quentine is enough to realise that travel is never far away. Around the dining room, a handful of objects brought back from India catch the eye and tell a story — that of Magali and Patrice.
After spending around fifteen years in India, they chose this potters' village on the outskirts of Uzès to unpack their suitcases, boxes and memories, before opening their own restaurant. While Magali welcomes every guest with such a genuine smile that you instantly feel not just expected, but eagerly awaited, Patrice is busy behind the stove. It is on the plate — and, to some extent, in the décor too — that their Indian story continues to unfold. Although the cooking draws on memories of their years in Bangalore, it is also firmly rooted in the Gard region. Vegetables and fresh herbs sourced from nearby producers, most of them organic, are enhanced with spices, sauces and cooking techniques inspired by the Indian subcontinent. This is not Indian cuisine in the strict sense, but rather a personal, free-spirited and delicate interpretation, where cumin, cardamom and turmeric subtly deepen and elevate the flavours. The result mirrors the spirit of the place itself: warm, cosmopolitan and unpretentious, finding its balance with ease. A table where you can travel without moving, before continuing your stroll through the narrow streets lined with ceramic workshops.
When shall we go?
