La Grange

There are places that feel as though they’ve always been there. Simple places, without pretence, where everything just feels right. At La Grange, in the heart of Vers-Pont-du-Gard, you might come for lunch… and find yourself still at the table a few hours later, sharing a glass of natural wine as the village slowly slips into a gentler pace.
Set on the village’s central square, just minutes from the Pont du Gard, this former barn has become the gathering point for the entire village and beyond. Here, travelers mingle with regulars, passing cyclists, families returning from a swim in the Gardon, and Uzès lovers in search of a sincere, welcoming table. The kitchen, led by Sophie Barbier, follows the seasons with simplicity—no theatrics, no unnecessary flourishes. Local produce, mostly organic, generous plates, vegetables handled with precision, perfectly judged cooking, and desserts by Clara Philippe so spot-on that some guests come almost exclusively for them; in short, an honest, joyful cuisine made for sharing, changing with deliveries from producer friends, inspirations and passing cravings. But what makes La Grange in Vers-Pont-du-Gard so charming goes well beyond the plate. In the morning, it takes on the feel of a village café; at lunchtime, the terrace slowly comes to life with overlapping conversations; in the evening, as the light seems to gild the square, the bottles (carefully selected by Louise Bobby) begin to circulate, and before long, you’ve quite forgotten the time. Inside, ancient stone, raw wood and a convivial spirit extend that feeling of being in a country house where you’ve been invited to stay. And why not do exactly that…
